Cowboys sweep The Bills at home
The Cowboys geared up for battle on Sunday as they took on The Pecos Bills in the series finale. Alpine was looking for their second sweep of Pecos on the season.
Brendan May made his first start of the season for The Cowboys on the mound. May was an integral part of The Cowboys pitching staff last season.
The Cowboys took an early one to nothing lead when Tommy Kretzler grounded into a double play that scored Khalil Wilson. The Bills would counter in the second inning with a two run RBI single from Jorge Peralta.
Pecos would take a three to one lead in the third inning when Mark Bonnain hit an RBI single. The Cowboys would counter later in the inning with RBI single’s from Tommy Kretzler, and Josh Rego. Kretzler would score off of an error, and then Taylor Darden hit an RBI triple to make the score six to three in Alpine’s favor.
Tommy Kretzler further strengthened The Cowboys lead with an RBI single that scored Khalil Wilson in the fourth inning.
Jaylen Smith came into pitch for The Cowboys in the sixth inning after a solid performance from Brendan May. The Bills tacked on another run in sixth when Dwayne Maduro scored off of an error at third base.
The Cowboys would return the favor later that inning with a two run home run from Johnny Medina to give The Cowboys a nine to four lead.
Jaylen Smith would pick up two more strikeouts for The Cowboys in the seventh inning. In two innings of relief Smith had four strikeouts.
Jesse Garcia came in to pitch for Alpine in the eighth inning. Garcia gave up a two run RBI double from Mark Bonnain to cut The Cowboys lead down to three. Garcia ended the inning on a high note with a strikeout on Andy Valdez.
Jack Mcnellis closed it out for The Cowboys in the ninth inning on the bump. Alpine only led by three at this point until Dwayne Maduro hit an RBI single to cut The Cowboys lead down to two. Mcnellis proceeded to strike out the side, and led The Cowboys to a nine to seven victory.
The Cowboys will host The Tucson Saguaros this Tuesday at 6:00 PM CST before traveling to Tucson on Thursday for a three game set.
